Primitive Skills Workshop - Friction Fire

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park

Creating fire by “rubbing sticks” was one of mankind’s greatest discoveries. We’ll cover bow-drill & hand-drill methods, demonstrate fire-making in extreme weather conditions, and discuss making a fire kit with stone tools & handmade cordage. Reservations required with $15 fee.

Discovery Stations

Our stations provide a casual, yet engaging educational opportunity for families and children to learn about nature through hands-on crafts, activities and tabletop displays. This activity is complimentary. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Eagles of North America

Join us on February 2 as Dickerson Park Zoo features a live Bald and Golden Eagle Program at the Sycamore classroom in the Nature and Conservation Center.

Discovery Stations

Our stations provide a casual, yet engaging educational opportunity for families and children to learn about nature through hands-on crafts, activities and tabletop displays. This activity is complimentary. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Stone-Age Survival Skills

See demonstrations of flint knapping, friction fire, weapons and clothing, cordage and other tools employed by our prehistoric ancestors.

Foraging in the Ozarks

Join us for a mosey around the canyon to learn about wildflowers, edible and medicinal plants and a bit about local archaeology. Bring binoculars if you have them, as there is always a possibility to see beautiful songbirds and other Ozarks wildlife!

Amphitheater Talk - Frogs & Toads

Stop by our scenic outdoor amphitheater for a fun and engaging program to get your Dogwood adventure started! We will be “hopping” into spring with a quick introduction to the frogs and toads you could see on your hike through the canyon! This program is complimentary with park admission.
